The Arkansas Bar Association notes with sadness the passing of James E. West, who served as President of the Arkansas Bar Association from 1973–1974. Mr. West passed away on January 3, 2026, at the age of 97. A respected attorney and longtime leader in the Arkansas legal community, he practiced law in Fort Smith for many years and served as managing partner of Daily, West, Core, Coffman & Canfield. In addition to his service as ArkBar President, he was also President of the Sebastian County Bar Association and a charter member of the Natural Resources Law Section, where he was later honored with a Distinguished Service Award. The Association extends its condolences to Mr. West’s family, friends, and colleagues. His leadership, professionalism, and dedication to the practice of law in Arkansas will be remembered.
