Standing Committees

The Young Lawyers Section is the most active section of the Arkansas Bar Association, and has several projects each year.  These projects are driven by several standing committees comprised of members of the Young Lawyers Section.  A complete list of standing committees is listed below.  If you are interested in serving on a committee, please contact the Arkansas Bar Association


Citizenship Education Committee

The purpose of this committee is to educate the public on their rights and responsibilities as citizens.  This committee is responsible for projects and activities which may include: Law Week, Constitution Week, Mock Trial Competition, and other projects for citizenship education.


Communications Committee

The purpose of this committee is to inform members and interested persons about the activities of the Young Lawyers Section.  This committee is responsible for the YLS In Brief newsletter and other communications projects.  


Disaster Relief Committee

The purpose of this committee is to provide legal assistance to persons in need following natural disasters.  This committee is responsible for Disaster Relief Plan and other disaster relief projects.


Legal Education Committee

The purpose of this committee is to educate attorneys on the legal process and to improve the skills of lawyers in practice.  This committee is responsible for projects and activities which may include: Bridging the Gap Seminar, Trial Practice Seminar, Statute of Limitations and/or related handbooks, and other projects for legal education.


Minority Outreach Committee

The purpose of this committee is to educate minorities on the opportunities available in the legal profession and to involve minorities in active participation in the Young Lawyers Section.  This committee is responsible for minority outreach projects.


Pro Bono Committee

The purpose of this committee is to provide free legal advice and information to the public.  This committee is responsible for projects and activities which may include: Senior Citizens Handbook, Consumer Law Handbook, Wills for Heroes and other pro bono projects.


Recruitment and Social Committee

The purpose of this committee is to introduce law students and young lawyers to the Young Lawyers Section, recruit their active involvement in the Arkansas Bar Association and hold social events for current and prospective members of the Section.  This committee is responsible for events and activities which may include: Liaison meetings with law students in conjunction with the Fall Legal Institute and the Mid-Year Meeting, coordinating other law school projects or activities, greeting new attorneys at swearing-in ceremonies, and planning social events for current and prospective Section members.
