The 2008-09 Committees and Task Forces were appointed by President Richard L. Ramsay. The chairs and purpose of each commitee are outlined below. Members of committees and task forces are appointed each spring for the following bar year.  A new bar year commences at the conclusion of the Annual Meeting in June.

Charles W. Goldner, Jr. , Chair
Annual Meeting
Jeffrey Ellis, Chair: The Annual Meeting Chair works with numerous Association members in planning the June event which spans 4 days and attracts 20% to 25% of the Association membership along with spouses and children.
Arkansas Bar Commission on Diversity 
Jim E. Crouch and Danyelle J. Walker, Co-Chairs: The Commission addresses the opportunities and challenges for encouraging and increasing diversity within the Arkansas Bar Association and within the legal profession and legal system generally in Arkansas.

Arkansas Professional Practicum Committee
Brian Rosenthal, Chair: Responsible for developing a proposed mandatory program for new attorneys which would emphasize professionalism and practice skills.
Bar Leaders Handbook & Benefits Task Force
Thomas A. Daily, Chair
Continuing Legal Education Committee 
Zane A. Chrisman, Chair: Responsible for reviewing the current means and systems of legal education in Arkansas and promoting the CLE program of the Association.
Editorial Advisory Board for the Arkansas Lawyer
Philip E. Kaplan, Chair: Responsible for planning and evaluating The Arkansas Lawyer, including the selection of authors for desired articles.
Editorial Board for Handbooks 
Beth M. Deere, Chair: Responsible for review and update of the Arkansas Bar Association handbooks.
Finance Committee
William A. Martin, Chair: Responsible for assisting the President in establishing the Association’s annual budget, monitoring spending, setting guidelines for officer expenditures, establishing check signature and bonding requirements and reviewing the report of the Association’s auditor. An Investment sub-committee is responsible for reviewing and recommending changes in the investment policies for Association funds.

Susan R. Brida, Chair: Responsible for promoting and evaluating the online attorney directory on the Association’s website.
Group Insurance Committee
Win A. Trafford, Chair: Reviews and recommends group insurance programs available to Arkansas Bar Association members.
House Committee 
Frank B. Sewall, Chair: Responsible for examining the needs of the Association for space and developing plans to secure and maximize utilization of that space.
Joint Planning Group for the Future Bar Center

Judicial Article Implementation Task Force
Ken Gould, Chair: Recommends legislative and court rule changes for the effective implementation of Amendment 80, the new judicial article.
Judicial Council Liaison Committee 
John F. Stroud, Jr., Chair: Maintains and improves relations between the Association and the Arkansas Judicial Council. In accordance with the Judicial Council's Constitution, the Committee consists of the Association's President and five members appointed by the President.
Judicial Nominations Committee
Donna C. Pettus, Chair: Provides an evaluation of the qualifications of prospective appointees to judicial vacancies at the request of the Governor and maintains and furnishes to the Governor a broad-based current list of attorneys suggested for appointment as Special Justices on the Arkansas Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals.
Jurisprudence and Law Reform Committee 
Logan S. Stafford, Chair: Responsible for studying and reporting on reforms of substantive law, improvements in law practice and the administration of the courts. Also responsible for reviewing proposed legislation for inclusion in Association’s legislative package and making recommendations thereon to the House of Delegates.
Mark W. Hodge, Chair: Promotes the practical understanding of, and respect for, the law throughout the State of Arkansas through the development, coordination and implementation of quality law and civic education materials and programs.
Law School Committee
David J. Whitaker, Chair: Works with the University of Arkansas School of Law and UALR William H. Bowen School of Law in securing funding for legal education, keeps abreast of law school concerns and serves as a Board-of-Visitors at the law schools.
Sam E. Gibson, Chair: LAMP will assist the Bar of Arkansas to provide legal services specific to the needs of veterans of the United States military forces and specific to the needs of members of the active, reserve and National Guard military forces of the United States and their families.
Lawyers Helping Lawyers Committee 
Alice F. Lightle, Chair: Works with the Arkansas Lawyers Helping Lawyers Program to maintain and improve efforts to provide assistance and support to lawyers with emotional, drug or alcohol problems and encourage them to seek ways to overcome their problems.
Lawyers for Literacy Committee
Paul T. Bennett, Chair: Gathers information concerning literacy efforts in Arkansas, assesses the state's literacy needs, determines and makes recommendations for ways the Association can help meet these needs and implements the "Lawyers for Literacy" program.
Legal Services Committee (Civil) 
Michael W. Mullane, Chair: Mission is to improve the availability of legal services to low-income persons and work closely with public and private agencies interested in this objective.
Legislation Committee
John A. (Jack) Davis, III , Chair: Supports the Association's lobbyist in promoting the enactment of bills included in the legislative package and acts to support the Association's position on legislation affecting law practice in Arkansas. The committee also considers and decides the Association's position when the House of Delegates has not taken a position on legislation under consideration or expected to be under consideration by the United States Congress or the Arkansas Legislature or its interim committees or on proposed initiated acts that have been proposed by other parties.
Legislation Task Force 
Jim Julian, Chair: Recommends needed changes in the Association’s legislative advocacy program and the general legislative process in Arkansas.
