  • High School Mock Trial State Championship This Saturday

    The Arkansas Bar Association’s annual High School Mock Trial State Championship will be held Saturday, March 30th starting at 9 a.m.  It will be held at the Pulaski County Courthouse in Little Rock. 

    Twelve teams from nine high schools around the state will compete for the title of Mock Trial State Champions and the chance to compete at the National High School Mock Trial competition in Athens, GA this May. Approximately 40 local attorneys and judges volunteer to help with the coordination and judging of the competition.

    Nineteen teams participated in regional competitions on March 2. Below is a list of the schools with teams who qualified for the state tournament:

    Regional Champions:
    Pine Bluff Region - Mt. St. Mary/Catholic High School (Team Purple)
    Jonesboro Region - Little Rock Central High School (Team Gold)
    Fayetteville Region - Springdale High School (Team Bulldogs)

    State Qualifiers: 
    Har Ber High School (Team Carolina) (Regional Runner-Up)
    Mt. St. Mary/Catholic High School (Team White) (Regional Runner-Up)
    Little Rock Central High School (Team Black) (Regional Runner-Up)
    Conway High School
    Har Ber High School (Team Navy)
    Batesville High School
    Harrison High School Conversion Charter
    Eureka Springs High School
    Tuckerman High School

    The public is invited to attend the mock trials and watch the students make their arguments. Parents and teachers who are interested in bringing the Mock Trial program to their school are encouraged to contact the Arkansas Bar Association. The Association can provide curriculum plans for in-school classes as well as material for establishing a Mock Trial team as an extra-curricular activity. Only six students and a teacher-sponsor are needed for a team.
