ArLAP is a statewide network of volunteer layers
and judges trained by professional staff to
assist colleagues for the effects of addictive
diseases (alcoholism and drug abuse), mental
health, physical disabilities or aging concerns
which may impair their ability to practice law.
ArLAP is supported by the Supreme Court of Arkansas
and is separate from the disciplinary system.
The Arkansas
Supreme Court established ArLAP in 2001, granting
a petition of the Arkansas Bar Association
and Pulaski County Bar Association which advocated
its need. The Lawyer Assistance Committee
of the Arkansas Bar Association supports ArLAP
through volunteer attorneys who are trained
peers.
